Large Mahogany Library or Dining Table, 1940s, Danish

About the Item

A 1940s Danish mahogany library table with leather insert would be most appropriate used today as a large desk or dining table. This substantial neoclassical table is an example of Danish cabinetmakers adopting the British aesthetic vernacular. The curvilinear legs are directly based on a Thomas Chippendale design. The moulded leg with no foot ornamentation was favoured by the furniture-magnate during the 1770s, influenced by his neoclassical collaborations with Robert Adam. This leg details adds some rich architectural interest to an otherwise traditional piece. The table would comfortably fit eight to ten.
