About the Item

This carefully designed and handcrafted, rectangular, contemporary diner table with elegant legs on the corners, designed and made by Tomaz Viana consists of a very thin and chamfered table top, hold by four legs on the cut corners. The leg wooden radial grain is noticed in the top as a discreet decorative item. Made as one piece only, the top acts as a structural important part on the whole. The whole piece is structured by a fine and intricate hidden system of joints and classical woodworking techniques were applied. Made from solid French oak. Finished without sandpaper or modern technologies, instead, the surface is smoothed with a hand plane and other cutting blade tools, the original techniques used in the 18th century. This methods require years of expertise, knowledge of the material and handling of tools, from it, the surfaces acquire a special patina and since the whole piece of furniture is wood carved, the cut wooden fibres transmit to the sight and touch a sense of poetic and soft primitiveness.
