Rise Round Dining Table Handcrafted in India by Paul Mathieu
About the Item
This round dining table was designed by the renowned designer Paul Mathieu for Stephanie Odegard. When he first saw the extraordinary swirling colors and patterning of the Indian sandstone “Rainbow Teakwood” he realized that he had discovered the perfect material for a large format round dining table that would combine the look of both stone and wood. The table tops of this round dining table are cut to display the unique patterning characteristic of the stone, which resembles the appearance of wood cut across the grain. The massive yet deceptively elegant curved bases are each carved from a solid block of stone. Due to the size of these blocks, they must be quarried with the grain in the stone, not across the grain as the table tops. The bases therefore have a similar appearance, but do not display the swirling grain as much, which would be distracting. Both tops and bases of this round dining table come sealed from the quarry. The different graining patterns show the sealer slightly differently, the bases looking “more dry” than the top. No two Rise Round Dining Tables will be alike.
CUSTOMIZATION These round dining table may be customized for size and edge treatment (cleft edge is standard). They can be other shapes including round and oval. Generally 8’ long is the maximum length; occasionally lengths up to 9’ have been available. 4 feet is the maximum width; occasionally width up to 5 feet is also available. It can also be made in length up to 13’ of two book matched tops resting on three bases.
