About the Item
Luxury and rarity meet to create this beautiful burl wood dining set in walnut by Schnadig Furniture Company, a maker of large scale distinctive traditional design furniture. The European influence of William IV, Regency style is reflected in the overall scale and size of the dining table and its eight chairs. This offers an elegant and spacious setting for gathering and mealtime.
The two burl pattern leaves are in excellent condition, as are the heavy upholstered chairs--six dining chairs and two armchairs. The details are impressive: turned legs on the dining table and pristine tan herringbone upholstery on six of the dining chairs. The quality of the wood carving and the patina are fantastic. The elegant curves and details of the table legs are true to William IV style, and the overall elegance that is reflected in the "monarch" or Regency period.
The back of each chair features a lobed detailing that gives the set an extra level of visual interest and beauty. The design centers an oval boss that lends artistry. This set is somewhat rare, and it is highly collectible. The piece shows some signs of age, but is in overall very good condition with beautiful burl wood finish and a patina that only comes with time.
Schnadig's rendition of the style is faithful to the period, with its sturdy, but graceful curved-back chairs. It would have made the regents take notice--the sheer dimension of the set with two leaves for a larger gathering represents versatile and functional design. Schnadig Furniture Company began in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1908, and the company is known for large pieces, such as this dining room set, and for high quality, traditional design furnishings.
