Stefan Rurak, Dining Table V, USA

About the Item

Stefan Rurak’s concrete, steel, and glass dining table is available by commission. Custom dimensions and materials can be accommodated for interior or exterior spaces. Each sculptural table base is unique, demonstrating Rurak’s one-of-a-kind, expressionist aesthetic. Rurak’s evocative, one-of-a-kind works are the type of collectible pieces built to span generations. Each work conveys movement, action, and intuition. Rurak’s process stems from a diverse range of media, ranging from things as conventional as drawing and painting to performance art. Functional and sculptural, the central column serving as a 360 degree expressionist painting. A combination of paint and pigmented concrete, creates a dynamic impasto, populated by incised and gilded etchings. Rurak uses freeform splashes and stains, applied by hand, to achieve the unique patina on the central steel medallion. The etched drawings that are repeated in his work, both on the steel and the table’s base, are a language of symbols personal to Rurak and akin to an ever-changing signature. Rurak draws no distinction between art and design – the utilitarian becoming a canvas for his aesthetic endeavor. Each work conveys movement, action, and intuition, providing a stark counterpoint to the meticulous construction and composition of the functional skeleton underneath.

The Alaia dining table is an homage to pre-20 th century Hawaiian surfboards. The top, made from dramatically grained ziricote wood indigenous to Mexico, rests on an ebonized oak base. Ziricote is a non-threatened species often used for fine musical instruments. This table can be used with a pair of matching Alaia commodes, upon which the leaves rest when in its smallest configuration, eliminating the need for leaf storage. Leaf storage case available if used alone. Note: Custom sizes are available. Georgis...
