Hand Painted Drop Leaf Serving Table by Peter Hunt Provincetown RI Folk Artist
Located in Ferndale, MI
Drop leaf tea or serving cart from the shop of Peter Hunt . While this piece is not signed it is clearly the work of his shop . I purchased from the estate of a Peter Hunt collector along with a few other Hunt pieces . Drop leaves are 9 and 7/8" wide . Original caster wheels are functional but do have flat spots . The work of Peter Hunt is best described as folk art or naive art . Born in New Jersey lived briefly in Greenwich village after WW1 . He gained recognition after moving to Provincetown in the late 1920s . The 1930s 40s and 50s saw his star rise . Popular for his art form of taking refinished furniture...

18th Century English George II Walnut Drop-Leaf Table with Ball & Claw Feet
Located in Shippensburg, PA
With an old and beautifully patinated surface, the table remains silky to the touch with traces of scars and wear having long since oxidized to join the finish throughout. All three leaves are solid singular planks of walnut with a simple rounded edging, the drop leaves hanging on their original forged iron hinges. The apron on either side is a thick vertical walnut veneer over an oak secondary wood, the pine sides of the frame dovetailed into this; the outer rail is nailed to the inner pine frame, the gate leg swinging outward with three-over-two knuckle hinges secured with a dowel through the center to raise the leaves. This results in a full 53” table length, a comfortable space for entertaining guests or playing cards in the evening. The very gentle curve of the legs is only barely suggestive of the cabriolet, each foot terminating in a finely carved set of talons grasping a sphere. The petite size and profile of this drop leaf table make it a most attractive console piece for the hall or entryway, as a table against the wall beneath a large pier mirror...
