Antique English Edwardian Marquetry Inlaid Sewing Table

About the Item

A fine quality Edwardian period sewing work table, exquisitely handcrafted in England at the turn of the 19th / 20th century. The extraordinary table features exceptional attention to detail and master-craftsmenship is shown throughout, with extensive mahogany and satinwood parquetry, having a cartouche-shaped top with oval book-matched curly tiger maple marquetry inlay, contrasting ebony stringing and banded inlay and delicate rosewood cross-banding. An eye-catching apron with burled Birdseye maple medallions at corners, ebony and satinwood arrow banding, a single dovetailed frieze drawer with original bone escutcheon. The drawer opening to reveal a fitted interior divided into twelve compartments, two having lids with brass hardware and matched marquetry. The beautiful inlay continues below the drawer on the unique and rare pull-out sewing bag holder with cut-out and wooden frame, all rising on long slim canted legs. This sophisticated and elegant antique, circa 1900, mixes clean lines and simple form with fine quailty materials and exceptional detailing to create this superb piece. Finished on all sides and the ideal proportions for use as a side or end table, center table, petite console or entry table, accent table, ladies vanity or writing desk, parlor lamp stand or bedside nightstand to name a few Dimensions: (approx) 28.25" H, 20" W, 14.5" D.

Elegantly sophisticated, this scarce antique is a wonderful example of high quality early 19th century American craftsmanship.
