Antique French Louis XV Kidney Shaped Marquetry End Table
About the Item
Antique French Louis XV kidney shaped marquetry end table combines convenient size with double the surface area plus incredible artistry. Utilizing various shades of walnut and satinwood, the two surfaces feature oriented grain for added visual appeal, with the top boasting a border around minute parquetry canvas upon which the woodworker expressed his art insetting and orienting different shades of wood to create a visual image of a floral bouquet. The contours of the apron all around contrast with the straighter horizontal line of the shelf below, yet both surfaces were designed with a kidney shape creating a lot of surface for a table that is less than a foot deep overall. Subtly scrolled legs provide support, and the entire work is accentuated with brass castings and edging for an opulent touch.
