Classical American Empire Grecian-Form Work Table in Mahogany, circa 1830 Boston

About the Item

A very beautiful American Empire work table in the Grecian style in a very fine grade of solid West Indies mahogany with expert book-matching of the top planks and the crotch veneer. The top has two leaves that fold-down when not in use. The standards are composed of "S" scrolls which when viewed from the sides form an open semi-heart shape, and rest on scroll feet. There are three drawers with rounded fronts. The top drawer has divided compartments for writing, sewing and darning implements and offers a writing surface which is inlaid in leather. The third drawer has a cylindrical bottom for yarns and knitting needles. Drawers have original turned wooden knobs, circa 1825-1830. Measurements: 20 1/2" wide x 20" deep x 29 1/2" high.
