Tall Piedra Pedestal by Algo Studio

About the Item

Tall Piedra pedestal by Algo Studio Designed by Diego Garza Dimensions:  D 31 x W 33 x  H 56 cm Materials: Formica, paper paste coating, plywood structure. These side tables are a conceptual yuxtaposition of contrasting values. On one hand the rocky appearance represent permanence and nature; on the other, the materials such as paper paste and Formica are opposite to that. These contrasting values, artificial -natural, lightness - heaviness, contemporary - primitive, give the piece depth beyond the aesthetics. Algo Studio, based in Monterrey, Mexico, was founded in 2019 by Diego Garza, architect with a MFA in furniture design by RISD in 2015. Our goal is to be a constant creation laboratory on product, furniture and lighting design. We have our own workshop where we produce some of our pieces. Our creative method is based on working firsthand with materials and techniques in order to create new results. We seek to create elementary objects with a soul. Objects with a warm, grounded vibe, expressing something interesting to the senses. With the intention to keep things fresh and be able to constantly regenerate our proposals most of our lots are all small and limited.

  • Tall Side-Table or Artwork Pedestal, Found Wood and Various Materials, Painted
    By John Seubert
    Located in Chicago, IL
Made from found and reclaimed wood, each of John Seubert's Crash Tables are unique and meticulously crafted. He calls them Crash Tables because they are a collision of parts created from table legs, stair railings, chair backs, etc. which are mitered together to form a solid construction. Once assembled, the table is painted and then distressed to give it an antiqued appearance. Created from salvaged and recycled materials, this pedestal table represents the utmost in sustainable design. "Less Talk, More Work" is painted with a blue grey paint and also boast four drawers painted in white paint. Each drawer's antique library storage finger pull is adorned with the words stamped on metal: Less, Talk, More, Work. John Seubert Less Talk, More Work found objects Measures: 45.50 H x 20 W x 20 D in 115.57 H x 50.80 W x 50.80 D cm JSE028 In the early Nineties, John Seubert was living in a former hotel in a high-rise building on St. James Place in Chicago. The apartment was tiny, as hotel rooms tend to be, and clad with paper-thin walls allowing sound to pass from one apartment to the other. At the time, John’s artwork consisted of pounding copper sheets into tables which was a noisy endeavor to say the least. Following several noise complaints from the neighbors, John had a dream that he was living in a ramshackle house but with plenty of room to work and no attached neighbors. The following day after lunching at the McDonalds in Lincoln Park, John wandered the neighborhood a came upon a shabby, falling-down old Victorian house. He located the real estate agent...
