Dutch Art Deco Occasional Table Haagse School, 1930s

About the Item

Modernist/Haagse School solid oak side table from Art Deco era, Haagse School (The Hague School), marked underneath with dating febr. 1935. Eye catching and rather large piece with a geometric pattern in macassar ebony and mahogany square on the tabletop, also macassar around the rim of the tabletop. Design is reminiscent of designs by P.E.L. Izeren for the Genneper Molen. Also, nicely shaped table legs in style of the famous Haagse School designer Hendrik Wouda. It is ideal to use as an occasional table, coffee table or plant table and combines beautifully with other Haagse School or modernist pieces (as illustrated with some pictures) The table is in very good condition, with only small signs of wear. Pictures all taken in natural light and in sunlight. ''Haagse School'' (The Hague School) stands for the luxurious and modern design style that manifested itself in 1920s The Hague, Netherlands. The Hague School is a variant of Art Deco. The style is recognizable by the straight and geometric shapes of the furniture that reflect the architecture of the time. The Hague School is often seen as a mix of Berlage's rationalism, the traditional Arts and Crafts Movement, the interiors of Frank Lloyd Wright, Rietveld and the avant-garde movement De Stijl.
