Satinwood and Mahogany Parquetry Circular Side Table

About the Item

This table was created in England in the 19th century. It is crafted from satinwood, and is fitted with a mahogany stretcher. The table is comprised of an oval-shaped top, which features a parquetry design. The grain of the satinwood panels is arranged so that the wood fibres radiate from a central point. This table top is encircled by a raised edge. Four rosewood legs support the table top. These are saber shaped, meaning they are straight and then flare out at their base. These legs are squared, and they taper at their feet. A mahogany stretcher is fitted to the legs, near their feet. This connects the legs diagonally with scrolled supports, which meet in the middle. This central point is topped by an urn-shaped finial. This table is refined in its form and use of materials, and, as such, will suit either an antique or contemporary style interior.

  • Antique carved hardwood circular side table with rosewood top, Myanmar

This heavily-carved circular side table was crafted in the 19th Century in Burma (modern-day Myanmar). The hardwood table features a circular top, with a polished rosewood inlaid centre. This is encircled by a profusion of low-relief carvings, depicting monkeys, elephants and birds, surrounded by foliage, hills and Myanmar architecture. This band of carved ornament is ringed by a raised, pierced gallery. A curvy-edged skirt runs along the top of the table, and is deeply carved with scrolling foliage. A baluster-shaped stem supports the table top. This has a leafy top, and foliate carved stem, with a fluted base. The stem is set on three legs with scrolled feet, which are decorated with three-dimensional carvings of wild cats and baboons. This table is a truly exquisite piece of Myanmar wood carving...
