Japanese antique wooden small low table/1868-1920/coffee table
About the Item
This is an antique wooden low table that was used in rural areas and shops in Japan.
In Japanese, this is called "fu-zukue."
Farmers used it to study, and shops used it to keep track of their books. It was also sometimes used as a workbench.
At that time, it was an essential piece of furniture used by people in various professions.
It is thought to have been made between approximately 1868 and 1920.
The material is zelkova and everything from the top plate to the legs are made of zelkova.
The beautiful wood grain of the zelkova on the top plate is slightly visible, making it attractive.
The top plate is slightly warped, but this is not a problem for placing cups, books, etc.
Things like this are becoming rarer and rarer in Japan.
We believe it is our mission to convey the charm of these old things and preserve them.

The wooden box made by combining simple cedar boards. I think it was a box that contained some tools. For many years, soot from the hearth and other parts stuck together and accumulated, resulting in such a black appearance. Don't worry, this soot won't stick to your hands if you touch it. It has a very beautiful black color overall and a simple shape. Good condition. It is a nice wooden box that makes you feel very wabisabi. It is also nice to use as a table or exhibition stand.
