About the Item
This Directoire or Consulate Style solid Mahogany One Drawer Work-stand / Table was made in the Danish West Indies on the Island of Saint Croix in the Late Eighteenth Century. The Saint Croix Table showcases the rich beauty of local solid mahogany by restraint, simpler and less ostentatious characteristics of earlier periods. The West Indies Table has a solid mahogany one board top with rich figural graining and warm patina. Below the solid mahogany top is a single drawer with two pulls and an escutcheon covering the lock. The drawer has a solid mahogany front with pine secondary. The drawer is raised above four solid mahogany square tapered legs. The Saint Croix Work-table is stamped under the back apron. The stamp is D D with a Prince of Wales Plume in between the two D's.
