Vittorio Introini "Chelsea" Dining Room Table for Saporiti, 1960

About the Item

Vittorio Introini "Chelsea" dining room table for Saporiti, lacquered wood, Italy, 1960. This outstanding “Chelsea” extendable table was designed by Vittorio Introini and manufactured by Saporiti in the 1960s. It stands on a pyramidal base, while the rounded top can be extended and turned into an oval shape. Its particularity is that the extension flaps are underneath the stem and appear from scratch by opening the top circular sections. A passionate architect and designer, Vittorio Introini (1935) began his design activity in the 1960s. His furniture recalled the innovative input and desire for change characterizing the cultural background of the time. His language combined individual creativity, the subjectivity of compositional systems, and knowledge of new materials. His exploration of an international and avant-garde style found in the Saporiti company an excellent interlocutor. Our atelier carefully restored the table. Slight signs of use and time.
