Chinoiserie Lacquered Tole Tray Table
About the Item
This tray is English Victorian, well-gilt with Chinoiserie decoration of pavilions, bridges, fishermen in an extensive mountainous landscape, within a shaped and gilt border. We do not often see scarlet trays like this one in this country. Because it is tole it is relatively robust when compared to papier-mache. On a later stand, it is highly decorative yet functional.
