About the Item
Brownlee's use of color and brush stroke to create a Cubist composition paying homage to Picasso and Braque contiributes to the paintings radiant energy. Painted in 1952 for submission to the S.F. De Young Museum (see label on verso)
The post cubist fracturing of the painting's overall pictorial structure, the careful and minute brush strokes that gives density to the surface and Brownlee's sense of color combined make for a dynamic work.
A wonderful painting, titled, dated and labeled with an exhibition on the verso framed in its original modernist mahogany frame.
Note: Brownlee is a listed artist whose works/installation are found in Honolulu and Portland. Brownlee renowned for wall mount sculptures a list of commercial and institutional installation can be found when searching his name.
