An Abstract Expressionist painter, printmaker and teacher, Frank Lobdell was born in Kansas City, Missouri but spent most of his career in the Bay Area where he lived in Palo Alto and from 1966 to 1991, was on the faculty at Stanford University. He studied in St. Paul, Minnesota at the School of Fine Art, in San Francisco with Clyfford Still at the California School of Fine Art, and in Paris at the Academie Grand Chaumiere. From 1942-1946, Frank Lobdell served in the United States Army.
