Pop Art Bandage Mixed Media, Circa 1950s Unsigned

About the Item

This circa 1960s wall art depicts a bandage and is three-dimensional, not printed. Composed of a rubber, perforated "bandage" base and a centered square of what appears to be a cotton-linen blend "gauze" pad. The bandage is glued to paper, but with a slight ripple on one side, emphasizing the dimensionality. Obviously, it's perfect for a washroom, a medical office, a collector of curiosities, oddities and medical display models. Because I am not in fact sure this is a deliberate work of art by somebody who chose not to sign their work, or a medical display item, used by salespeople. Though there appears to be a slight dark stain on the gauze that looks deliberate, not accidental and is suggestive of blood. And this detail makes me think, it must have been created as a work of art. Either way, the effect is a powerful, eye-grabbing focal-point of pop art for your wall. Or chair, if you like to lean framed things like me. The piece measures 30" long and is 10.5" tall with a depth of 1". The original glass was cracked so has been replaced with new glass by the same frame shop that framed the original. From the private collection of a Connecticut collector.

  • Pair Folk Art Paintings on Wood Panel, 1980s, by Moses Tolliver "MoseT"
    Located in Southbury, CT
My uncle Bob was a country lawyer in rural Alabama and Moses Tolliver was one of his friends and clients. The pair of original paintings you see here were given to my uncle by Mr. Tolliver in exchange for legal services in the 1980s. Both the human figure and the snake were painted on scrap wood paneling and each has an aluminum beer pull-tab on the back for hanging. The works have been framed so the pull tab is not visible; if you prefer, simply remove the frames and both pieces will be as created. The snake painting...

Roseline Koener mixed-media 2002 About the artist: My adventurous journey as an artist has been focused on accessing the magic pool of vibrant colors and life forces deep within me. I marvel at the infinite richness and divine beauty of colors, sounds, patterns, textures, and fragrances of Mother Nature. I am inspired and amazed by the powerful and dynamic cycles of life, which generate newness and oneness. The circular movements of planets and every cell, the miraculous growth of plants and mountains, the morning’s eclosion of roses, and the buoyancy of ocean waves fascinate me. Artists and musicians like Klee, Matisse, Tombly, Motherwell, Frankenthaler, Anatsui, Bach, Hafiz, Rumi, Hildegard von...
