Biography: Jan Schonk (Schiedam 1889 - Soest 1976, The Netherlands) Jan Schonk took classes at the academy of Fine arts and technical sciences in Rotterdam. Started working as an independent artist. From 1925-1930 he was a freelance designer at Plateel Pottery in Zuidholland. There he designed relief tiles, animal sculptures, vases and pots. He also designed some animal sculptures for Ivora. After 1931 Schonk devoted himself entirely to the graphic art. Composing masses, lines and forms to rhythmic chords. With his woodcuts, lithographs and etchings Schonk is one of the most important graphic artists of the 20th century.
