A Fine German Bronze Historicism Charger Depicting Entry Of Henry IV Into Paris March 22, 1594
Second half 19 century.
A finely cast "Historicism" charger commemorating "The Entry Of Henry IV Into Paris, 22 March in 1594.
The image is loosely based on a painting by Francois Gerard, (Rome 1770-Paris 1837).
Finely cast in bronze, the central scene surrounded by a Renaissance style border
containing fleur-de-lis, escuteheons and the intials "HH".
Obverse inscribed - "Ubergabe von Paris / An Konig Heinrich IV / Am 22 Marz. 1594 / Kunstgiesserei / Ilsenburg."
Ilsenburg Art Foundry is Germany's oldest foundry dating back to the 16th century.
The charger measures 12 3/4"- inches in diameter x 1" inch deep with a round ring back hanger.
