About the Item
A pair of 18th century Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette Commemorative Pewter Plates
This rare pair of 18th-century French pewter plates have been very finely decorated with portraits of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette of France with a title to each. These remarkable pieces were produced to commemorate their marriage in 1770. They have been completely hand-worked with the practice of raising, beating and punching the detail. This would have been done by a very skilled hand. They have been further enhanced with boarders of punched circles. These early historical pieces are in very good condition with a fine rich natural lustered patination. Circa 1770.
