Series of 11 Jay Bolton 1995 Outsider Art Woodcut Exhibit Art Prints

About the Item

"Series of 11 prints, marked JB 1995, numbered 3/20. Artist Jay Bolotin (American, born 1949) crosses many disciplines, including visual art, theatre, film, literature, and music, but he is first and foremost a storyteller who interweaves universal and personal mythologies to better understand and to comment on the human condition. Bolotin creates epic stories, realized through major projects that often take him many years to complete, and that require the invention of new techniques and processes. His interdisciplinary approach often results in projects that also take the forms of motion pictures, operas, and concerts/performances. But Bolotin’s driving force is the prints, and he is a master of drawing and woodcut. A native of Kentucky and acclaimed musician and visual artist, Jay Bolotin has combined his twin pursuits of art and music in highly original theatrical productions, such as "The Hidden Boy", whose American premiere was in New York City's City Center Theater, and the forthcoming "Limbus: A Mechanical Opera", under the direction of opera director Jonathan Eaton. This opera incorporated performers and the artist's giant mechanical sculptures. In his print works, Bolotin draws inspiration from literary sources, such as William Blake's work, which has a close affinity to Bolotin's own complex and ambiguous narratives. His woodcuts are in the collections of The New York Public Library, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Cincinnati Art Museum and many other public and private collections. Bolotin's work has been recognized by a Major Fellowship and New Works Grants from The Ohio Arts Council as well as a MacDowell Colony Fellowship. As a musician and songwriter Bolotin has worked with Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard and Dan Fogelberg. Kristofferson named Bolotin "one of the three best songwriters in the country". Bolotin gives regular concerts in the U.S. and abroad".    Sans Frame - 11” x 15”
