Shou Sugi Ban Wood Wall Panels, Peaks and Waves

About the Item

This piece ships free in the continental United States! Originating in 18th century Japan, shou sugi ban is a particularly striking method of preserving wood by charring it with fire. Traditionally, this practice is used with Japanese cedar in order to weatherproof it. The wood is burned until the surface is charred, and then coated with natural oil. Why buy BERTU HOME stumps? Kiln Dried Our stumps all go through a drying process in our kiln, sometimes for up to a month. We are meticulous with bringing each and every log to a specific moisture level. This process helps with major cracking, long-term moisture issues, and bugs. Eco friendly In an effort to replenish the trees we use, we plant 50+ trees a year. In addition, we practice salvage logging. Where do we source these? Some of the trees fall naturally. Some have damage from severe wind, lightning, flood, disease, or other natural disturbance so they need to be cut and removed before they fall. Others are fresh cut because people want them off their land. Salvage logging may reduce erosion, reduce intensity of future wildfires, and slow buildup of pest insects. Family owned These are made from our family to yours. Quality is of utmost importance, and we hand cut, de-bark, sand, and finish every piece with care. See how we do it here. Commercial grade These stumps are meant to be loved and USED. Each is finished with a durable commercial-grade finish. This finish is tough enough for spills, kids, and holds up in hotel and hospitality settings. These Shou Sugi Ban Wood Wall Panels - Peaks and Waves are made in the heart of Ohio with locally sourced maple. Each panel is made from a solid trunk of solid maple and each is hand sculpted, sanded, and burned until completely charred. They are then sprayed with a clear commercial grade finish. Every part of the process is handled with care - even the bark is hand chipped and sanded to honor the unique markings of each tree. There is inset hardware on the back of each panel for a screw to attach to the wall. We recommend finding a stud or using an anchor when hanging. Note: These are from REAL trees. Natural movement and cracking is normal. These are all slightly different in character and they may vary in size - No two pieces are exactly alike. The pricing is the listing is for exactly what you see in the photos. You can add or subtract to fit your needs! These are amazing in person. Important- *The shou sugi ban finish is delicate. We try our best to put an extra thick coat of finish on the product, but we will not be held liable for damages on walls or furniture if finish chips exposing black.* Specs Period/Model: New; Organic Modern Specs: Maple, Commercial Grade Finish Dimensions H: Each panel: 56", H hung in this orientation: 68" W: 33"-36" Shipping From the time of purchase, please allow 3-5 weeks for production.
