Biographie
Jean Poulain was a Belgian artist born in Katanga (former Belgian Congo) in 1884 and died in Belgium in 1967.
After leaving his family in 1904 to explore the Belgian Congo, he finally set out to discover the entire African continent, and it was from 1920 onwards that he developed his great interest in animal painting and drawing.
During his many journeys across the African continent, he met many secret tribes and clans, whose location he kept secret in order to protect them. His drawings become increasingly accomplished as he draws on the sketches and photographs he brings back from his travels.
Since 2002, his drawings have finally been brought out of oblivion, and Jean Poulain is now considered an essential artist for animal drawings.
