Émile Bemindt was a French artist active between 1859 and 1872 and is best known for his work in the Rococo Revival style: in the late 19th century, there was a renewed interest in Rococo and artists created new paintings like this one to reflect the sensual imagery of artists such as François Boucher and Jean-Honoré Fragonard.
