Small Kite interpretation by UK artist Natalka Stephenson
Natalka Liber Stephenson received her MA in Visual Communication from the Royal College of Art in London, where she also received the Augustus Martin Award for her use of Printmaking.
Natalka’s practice (which is strongly founded in experimental drawing, though multi-disciplinary), explores a fantastic stance on reality. Through her work she casts an uncanny lens over day-to-day observations and objects, utilises dream-imagery to interpret sensations of estrangement or anxiety around human action, and documents an “otherworld” inhabited by transformed figures and sentient mythic objects.
Recent work has manifested a series of chalk-pastel works on paper, featuring Monstrous Kites.
Aside from her education, family ties in the film industry, past occuation in design fields have impacted the Artist.
As well as the consistent presence of narrative and world-building, the power of objects and textural colour is evident in her practice and choice of materials. Her focus is heavily biassed to the sensory impact of these.
She currently lives and works in the Thanet area of Kent.
