17th CENTURY PIETRO DA CORTONA'S PAINTING THE RAPE OF THE SABINE WOMEN

About the Item

The painting is a refined work created with the oil on canvas technique, which represents a reinterpretation of the famous painting "The Rape of the Sabine Women" by Pietro Berrettini, also known as Pietro da Cortona. It is important to underline that this is a revisitation and not a copy, of smaller dimensions. The work depicts the mythical episode of the rape of the Sabine women, at the dawn of Rome, in which a group of Roman men kidnap the Sabine women during the celebrations in honor of Jupiter. The composition of the painting is asymmetrical, creating a sense of movement and dynamism. Every detail is very detailed, showing the artist's skill in accentuating facial expressions, gestures and clothing details. The painting belongs to the Baroque style, characterized by a realistic rendering of the subjects and a complex composition, dating back to around the first half of the 17th century. The work has undergone very few pictorial restorations over the years, thus preserving its integrity. It is framed with a contemporary pictorial frame, in pure gold, which harmonizes with the painting and enhances its overall aesthetics. Finally, it has been reframed around the 1980s. Measurements: HxWxD 64 x 80 x 5cm.
