19th Century English Framed Pastoral Oil Painting on Canvas Signed A. Green
About the Item
Decorate a den or a bedroom with this elegant antique painting. Created in England, circa 1860, and set in blackened and gilt wood frame, the canvas depicts three children in the countryside riding in a wheelbarrow. The bucolic piece has a wonderful color palette, and each child has expressive faces with typical outfits of the period. The painting is signed in the bottom left corner by British artist, "A. Green". The cheerful painting is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a palette of rich colors.
Alfred H. Green was a British painter from Birmingham who exposed in London from 1844-1862 and also at the Royal Academy and the British Institution.

Set in a carved giltwood frame, the artwork painted on canvas, illustrates a picturesque, countryside landscape scene with a forest, barn, chickens, ducks, and a pond in the foreground. The oil on canvas is signed on the back in the lower left corner by the artist, Eugene Galien-Laloue (see last picture). The artwork is in excellent condition with rich, realistic colors; it would make a lovely addition to a study, den, or living room. We thank Mr. Noé Willer for confirming the authenticity of this work, which appears in his archives of the artist. Eugène Galien-Laloue (1854-1941) was a French artist of French-Italian parents. He was a popularizer of landscape and street scenes, usually those illustrating autumn or winter settings. His paintings of the early 1900s accurately represent the era in which he lived: a happy, bustling Paris during la Belle Époque. His paintings regularly include horse-drawn carriages, trolley cars and its first omnibuses. Galien-Laloue's works are valued not only for their contribution to 20th century art, but for the actual historical content which they document.
