About the Item
Antique French school picturing an allegory of Arts : Muse Melpomene (you can tell with her traditional attributes - grapes crown and tragedy mask), wearing antique-style clothes, is teaching painting to young putti. She shows them Dyonysos' bust (Bacchus, with whom she is often shown) while the three children are busy copying the model and commenting drawings on a textbook.
Early 18th century oil on panel circa 1730 (French Regency), set into a beautiful Empire gold leaf gilt wood frame (19th century frame that fits very well the panel).
Fine depiction, beautiful painting.
In excellent, original condition. No repainted parts. The whole set has been cleaned by our restorers.
