About the Item
From Brazilian Artist Paulo Chaves comes this unique abstract painting on art board that looks like a small master with colors that range from taupe, black, off white to splashes of pink and blue. Found in it's original frame the organic shapes and objects dance around the painting. Great muted color palette that works with many decors. Lighting and colors may vary with room lighting.
Image size is: 15.25" wide x 11.40" high. Signed on right side of painting and on verso.
In 1954, Paulo Chaves went to Europe to study Painting and Art History, occupying a studio in the University City of Paris. On that occasion, he visited museums in France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Portugal. This experience, in addition to deepening his knowledge of the visual arts, marks his adherence to Abstractionism, non-objective art. Back in Brazil, he began a brilliant artistic career, participating not only in major painting exhibitions, but also in related activities in the artistic world.
From 1956 onwards, Paulo Chaves took part in the most important Brazilian art shows, such as the São Paulo International Biennial, the Salão Paulista and the Salão Nacional de Arte Moderna. In the various exhibitions he had at the Salão Paulista de Arte Moderna, he was awarded the Bronze Medal (1956), the Silver Medal (1960), the Small Gold Medal (1966), the Great Gold Medal (1967) and the Acquisition Award ( 1963). In the Salão de Santo André he received, in 1961, the City Hall Grand Prize and, in 1968, he had a special room in the I Salão de Arte Contemporânea of ??that city. At the VI Salão de Arte de Santos (1959), he received the Great Gold Medal. He held solo exhibitions in Rio de Janeiro, Campinas, São Caetano do Sul, Joinville and in several galleries in São Paulo, such as Folhas, La Ruche, F. Domingo, Astéia, Documenta, Paulo Prado and Tema Arte Contemporânea.
In the United States, he exhibited in New York, San Francisco, Pasadena and Pomona; in Europe, in Barcelona, ??Brussels; in South America, in Buenos Aires. As a guest of the Brazil-Japan Art Exhibitions, he exhibited in Tokyo, Atami, Kyoto, Brasília and São Paulo.
The paintings by Paulo Chaves are part of the collection of several Brazilian museums, such as the Museum of Art of São Paulo, Museum of Brazilian Art (FAAP), Museum of Modern Art and Museums of Art of Campinas, São José do Rio Preto, Penápolis, Joinville, Florianópolis, in addition to the art galleries in São Bernardo do Campo, Santo André and São Caetano do Sul. Abroad, his works are part of the Art Museum of La Paz.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Presents well, back of art board has foxing & some surface dirt. I would suggest a new frame since both frame & matte have age appropriate wear or rematte it. Matte is deeper than the frame & extends past it. Acquired this way.
