About the Item
A German oil on canvas mounted on board painting from the early 20th century by artist Oskar Frey, titled 'Deer in the Snowy Forest'. Created in Germany during the second quarter of the 20th century, this oil on canvas painting mounted on a flat board is by the hand of Oskar Frey who lived from 1883 to 1966. The painting depicts a grouping of young deer browsing the grass in the snowy woods. Walking on a hill creating a perfect diagonal in the composition, the three young deer are standing out beautifully on the white ground. One is peacefully focused on the grass, the other ones are on alert, looking around. The painting is signed in red lower left. The ensemble is set inside a simple yet elegant rectangular fir frame whose rustic appearance complements the subject beautifully. Its peaceful scene will make this German Oskar Frey painting circa 1930 a charming addition to any wall, perhaps hung above a side table or buffet.
