About the Item

An original abstract watercolor by the modernist artist May Bender. This painting created by the combination of 2 techniques, pencil drawing and watercolor, shows its elegance in its simple organic shapes depicted in 3 colors that overlapping on each other create different shades. May Bender, a life long painter created art throughout her successful career as a principal in an industrial/packaging design organization and continues to work full-time as a fine art painter today. After graduating with distinction from the High School for the Arts in Newark, New Jersey, she continued her art education at the Art Students League of New York, studying with recognized masters. Howard Trafton and Vincent Malta. Further studies in marketing and production expanded her extraordinary knowledge of life and art. Her organization, May Bender Design Associates, does industrial design, packaging and product design, and corporate identity. She has written numerous articles for publication. Awards include: 1985 Council of Packaging Designers International Packaging Person of the Year Award and 1980 CLIO Award. She also teaches packaging design at Parsons/The New School in New York

Great vintage condition. This piece is presented in a new blonde wood frame with a white mat. Hanging hardware is included. Signed lower right. One small hole in the paper backing of the frame.
