About the Item
Uncommon scene, painted by the Dutch Painter Joseph Bles! (1825-1875).
This large oil on canvas work, was Marouflaged on panel and features a religious scenery. The outgoing procession seems to take place in a Northern French environment.
As a joke of the painter, this painting was signed on a signboard above one of the houses instead of a corner of the painting where signatures often are to be found. Unfortunately it hasn't been marouflaged by a professional, which leaves this work with several damages. The painting is acknowledged by a renowed valuer. At the back of the board, there are some unknown stamps with A.J. Engel, Schalkhaar.
Joseph Bles
The Hague, 1825-1875.
Joseph Bles was a pupil of the Dutch painter Salomon Verveer. He continued the tradition of his teacher with sunny cityscapes and beachscapes with barges and fishermen, sometimes painted with happy companies. Due to the highly narrative and often humorous quality of his paintings, his work is often compared to that of D. Bles and A.H. Bakker Korff, who in their paintings often gave a witty picture of their time.
