Modern French Abstract Paintig Still Life by Roland Bierge

About the Item

Beautiful, important painting by the great French artist Roland Bierge. Signed and numbered on the back. This still life, of rare evocative intensity, best represents the artistic signature of this supreme artist of abstract modern art. With skillful brushstrokes he succeeds in creating an atmosphere of deep intimacy and emotion. This painting, never before on the market, comes from a private collection and is beautified by an impressive antique frame in gilded wood, in almost perfect condition. Every item of our Gallery, upon request, is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Sabrina Egidi official Expert in Italian furniture for the Chamber of Commerce of Rome and for the Rome Civil Courts. Self-taught, influenced and passionate by his readings, and painted in the style of Fauvism. At the end of World War II, in 1946, he moved to Paris in the Montmartre district, and despite a difficult start because he had to earn a living, he took full advantage of the brand-new "freedom" and visited museums "to satisfy a real thirst for knowledge." In 1947, the Vincent van Gogh retrospective at the Musée de l'Orangerie was a revelation for him, "a discovery of painting that determined a turning point in his work." In the same year he participated for the first time in the Salon des Indépendants in Précy-sur-Oise where he lived and painted landscapes of the Île-de-France, a theme often taken up later. At the same time he was employed as a decorator in the set design workshop of the Comédie-Française. His first private exhibition took place in 1950 at the La Boëtie gallery and was followed by others in the provinces, Luxembourg, Germany, New York and other cities. He participated regularly in group exhibitions, then in the Salon d'Automne(in 1952), the Salon de Mai (from 1969), la Jeune Peinture, the Salon du dessin et de la peinture à l'eau, the Salon Comparisons and with Groupe 109. Landscapes, portraits, nudes and many still lifes were his favorite subjects. He also used the techniques of pastel, lithography and stained glass for the church in Bouchevilliers (Eure). This artwork is shipped from Rome. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died can requires a license for export regardless of the work’s market price.
