Exceptional Early 1960s Abstract Impressionist Painting on Canvas ( Frame: 15.75"H x 15.5"W - Art: 12"H x 11.625"W ) By Robert Natkin.
This piece was painted before Natkin began to use various techniques/tools that he developed to help him quicken/automate the process of laying down the textured backgrounds in many of his paintings and drawings that he is so famous for. He created the texture by hand in his early works, which was a much more time-consuming process. By the late 1960s, he had begun to use rollers, sponges, and other devices That permitted impossibly intricate patterned textures in large, sometimes Monumental works. This is one of the reasons that most of the early works with intricate patterns are relatively small. There are relatively few of this type in the marketplace because he painted less of these, and collectors hold on to them so they don't show up in the auction Market Or in retail with the same regularity as the later pieces.

This piece shows some transitional elements in that the objects still show some of the crisscross technique that helps give texture to the various objects in the painting.
