"Nude with Scimitar, " Fabulous, Sensual Art Deco Painting by Forster, 1929
About the Item
Full of drama and intrigue, both sensual and classical, this depiction of a female nude tiptoeing toward a curtain being pulled aside by a threatening, unseen figure, has all the nocturnal drama of a scene by Aubrey Beardsley or Erte. The female nude's hair cascades like a waterfall over the front of her head, merging with the tendrils of her thin shawl, all framed by the dashed lines of the curtains to her side. The artist, M. H. Forster, only uses three hues in the painting a deep, midnight black, a silvery white, and a pale flesh color.
