About the Item
Offering an as found framed original mid-century oil painting on board of two gothic style teenage girls, perhaps sisters.
Most likely influenced by the pop surrealism "Big Eyes" paintings of Margaret Keane, this original is slightly more representational and easier to behold while still evoking emotions through the lens of their eyes.
Unsigned, I attribute this to Etienne Roth, (1914-1996) born in Hungary and travelled to Paris to study art at the Academy of Fine Arts when he was twenty. When comparing his paintings to this one, they are similar stylistically in tone and facial features. Same genre and time period.
I love the gothic style of their dark, bouffant hairdos, the closeness of the young girls, the color story and how the chosen frame doesn't assert itself too much. As found.
