Purvis Young (1943–2010) was a renowned American artist from the Overtown neighborhood of Miami, Florida. A self-taught visionary, Young's art uniquely combines painting and drawing with collaged elements, often utilizing discarded found objects. His inspiration drew from documentaries, art books, American history, and spiritual folklore, creating a vast visual vocabulary.
