About the Item

American abstract expressionist framed oil on canvas painting titled 'Ancient Figures', by R. Jorgensen in 1953. The piece depicts a style reminiscent of the early lyrical abstractions of Arshile Gorky and other artists of the early abstract expressionist period in the United States. Signed and dated on the lower right corner and marked on the back with signature, date (1953), dimensions and title. Also marked on the back frame is an exhibition location and date (Wartham Bank, Falmouth 1965) and stamps from WM H. Littlefield. Jorgensen was a contemporary and friend of prominent artist William H. Littlefield, to whom this painting was gifted by the artist in 1965, as per the inscription marked on the back frame. In great original condition & with original frame, with age-appropriate wear.
