"Surf Culture" Watercolor Painting by Industry Pioneer John Severson

A very nice "Surf Culture" first edition of the book "Surf" signed by author, surf industry pioneer and "Surfer Magazine" founder John Severson at the California Surf Museum in Huntington Beach, CA, circa 2014. The book is in great condition with vibrant colors and measures 9.75"W x 12.5"H; it includes the original dust jacket and signed "Cowabunga John Severson" in black marker on the inside title page A "must have" for any surf memorabilia collector! #3177 The book "Surf" came out in 2014 and was characterized by the New York Times as follows: "John Severson's Surf" is a book that presents the languid-meets-extreme-thrills lifestyle of surfing through paintings and vivid photography. He began his career as a painter, selling his first works while finishing his Master’s Degree at Long Beach State College. In the ’50s he became the first person to create a large body of art relating to the Hawaii-California surf culture. Since then he has provided a steady output of oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, and prints. In 1958, John used his art, photography, and surfing passion to create a popular surf movie series. A very nice "Surf Culture" vintage "Big Wednesday" movie poster signed by surf industry pioneer and "Surfer Magazine" founder John Severson circa 1990s. The piece is in great condition with vibrant colors and measures 12"W x 18"H; it is presented in a black metal frame and has a picture of Severson with the original owner at the signing on the back. Severson was the producer of this 1961 surfer cult classic. I believe this piece is a reprint and not an original poster from 1961. A very nice and super rare "The Surfer" magazine reprint from 1973 of the original "Surfer Magazine" published in 1960 by surf industry pioneer John Severson. The piece is in good condition with light creasing to cover; stress marks to spine; light foxing and shelf-wear to back cover; all pages / staples are intact and secure. The magazine measures 11"W x 8.5"H.
