About the Item

Painter: I. Israëls (Dutch) Titel: The whole family in Bios de Boulogne Medium: watercolor This exclusive painting by Isaac Israëls in excellent condition and has an original gold-plated Gehring frame. The painting watercolor (36 x 27 cm) has a signature and is dated on the lower right. The famous Dutch painter Isaac Israëls lived in Amsterdam until 1908. There he became acquainted with mundane city life and met George Breitner and Willem de Zwart, who became his painter's friends. He became the painter of the challenging nightlife with a free, elegant impressionistic touch. In 1904 he went outside for the first time with the easel to incorporate the direct light on canvas into beach and dune scenes. At the time he often collaborated with the German painter Max Liebermann From 1905 to 1913, Edgar Degas and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec in Paris were a great inspiration for Israelis. He had his studio there on the Boulevard de Clichy, where he painted the specific Parisian motifs: the public in the parks, the cafés, cabarets and bistros, in addition to the circus and funfair acrobats. Here too he portrayed the studio life with the French couturière Jeanne Paquin. For Israel's work large amounts are set (by Dutch standards): the world auction record for the painter was paid for A table au Restaurant Le Perroquet, Paris, which hammered Christie's in October 2006 at 493,600 euros. In 2012, five museum exhibitions from The Hague dedicated to Israëls under the title Isaac Israëls in The Hague, namely the Historical Museum of The Hague, Panorama Mesdag, the Louis Couperus Museum, Muzee Scheveningen and the Municipal Archives of The Hague.
