Set of Beautiful Litographic Postcards from North Africa by Lehnert & Landrock

About the Item

A beautiful Set of 20 Postcards with original photos of Arab cultures of North Africa created and commercialized by Lehnert & Landrock and signed "Editeurs L&L". This was a photographic studio run by Rudolf Franz Lehnert (Germany 1878-1948) and Ernst Heinrich Landrock (Bohemia 1878-1966) active in Tunisia and Egypt in the early 20th century, noted for producing Orientalist images of North African people, landscapes, and architecture for a primarily European audience. These images were mainly distributed in monographs, though also as original prints, photogravures, and lithographic postcards. This set of 20 pieces in sepia color depicts individual portraits, couples, groups, landscapes, and architecture in various countries and locations, most in vertical format, while some showing groups and landscapes are horizontal. A remarkable example of European curiosity for exotic and far away peoples and places as well as romanticized travels to little-known destinations.

  • Seven Falls Colorado Springs Antique Photographic Postcard, circa 1880
    Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is an antique photographic postcard of Seven Falls, Colorado, from 1880. Postcard production blossomed in the late 1800s and early 1900s, as railroads opened up much of the Western frontier to new and exciting travel opportunities. Seven Falls is one of Colorado’s most captivating natural wonders. Located at the base of the Front Range, this magnificent series of waterfalls is situated in a 1,250-foot-wall box canyon between the towering Pillars of Hercules and boasts a 181-foot drop of falling water. Seven Falls was originally part of land given to Nathan Colby in 1872 as part of the Homestead Act of 1862. The Homestead Act granted 160 acres of surveyed land to pioneers in the west, with claimants required to “improve” the plot by building a dwelling and cultivating the land. Mr. Colby promptly sold the track of land to James Hull...

  • Vanishing Africa by Giansanti, Giann Hardcover Photography Book
    Located in North Hollywood, CA
Vanishing Africa hardcover book by Giann Giansanti author photographer. This book represents months of work of planning and in the field, but above all it is a tribute to the eternal beauty of Africa; the photographs and text 'steal' from the peoples of the Omo a fragment of their mystery and truth. But with delicacy and respect. By examining a small region in the heart of the continent, the books attempts to trace the roots of remotest Africa; the cradle of man, where ancestral bonds with nature still exist. It is a place where the link with the dark side of existence is not hidden, as happens in the West, but exhibited. By means of his camera and his pen, in this book the author has encapsulated long years of study of the most interesting peoples...
