Artist: Bernard Lancy (1892 - 1964) Lancy started working as a poster artist, mainly for cinema. He worked from the 1920's until the late 1950's. In 1945 he was named Honorary President of the Syndicat des Affichistes de Cinéma - The Society of Cinema / Movie Poster Artists. He is particularly known for his poster for La Grande Illusion by Jean Renoir (1937) which he produced for the film's release in 1946. This highly symbolic poster represents a statuesque German soldier of the First World War and a white dove, caught and wounded in barbed wire. He is also the artist for a number of early Walt Disney posters: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Alice in Wonderland, Bambi or Pinocchio. This smiling sunny poster is for Le Roi des Galéjeurs, a French film directed by Fernand Rivers, released in 1940 with a screenplay is by Henri Allibert and Raymond Vincy. Henri Allibert plays the main role. This poster is wonderful decoration for a gentleman's dressing room, bar or game cum billiard cum pool room.
