Ilya Bolotowky Signed Limited Edition Op Art Serigraph

About the Item

A signed limited edition Op Art serigraph by Russian-American artist Ilya Bolotowsky (1907-1981). The work uses richly colored black, white, blue and yellow shapes to comprise a larger square shaped composition against a white ground. Signed and numbered 188/225 to the lower edge of the paper, the print is displayed behind a white mat in a silver tone frame. Ilya Bolotowsky was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1907. He lived in Baku and Constantinople before immigrating to the United States in 1923. Bolotowsky lived and worked in New York City and was a member of a group of artists called "The Whitney Ten" who worked to rebel against the tenants of the Academy. He was strongly influenced by the work of Piet Mondrian and the De Stijl movement. Bolotowsky taught at Black Mountain College from 1946-1948.
