Late 18th Century Color Print Engravings after Originals by Artist Henry William
About the Item
These are exceptionally RARE color engraved prints done after originals by artist Henry William Bunbury (1750-1811) and engraved by Francesco Bartolozzi. Both prints were done using the technique stippling. These pieces were created the later part of the 18th century and distributed into the early 19th century. Both are framed in antique gilded, gesso frames with black painting on the under surface of the glass to create the matt effect.
Framed piece #1: Auld Robin Gray. The first print shows a weary young girl sitting on a chair outside of her families cottage with her parents standing on either side of her with anxious poses. A cat sits in the left corner foreground with the sea and a ship on the water off in the distance to the upper left. Colors browns, cream, green, pink, blues and grey.
Framed piece #2: Love and Honour. This piece depicts a revolutionary war scene of two cavalry soldiers wearing Tarleton helmets as used by both the Continental and British armies during the American War of Independence. One of the soldiers is stealing a moment with his sweetheart presumably before they ride off to war.
