About the Item
Set of twelve individual sheets with affixed printers' devices, each featuring individual designs along with wording in old french, dating from approximately 1700.
Printers' devices were created by the printers of books and engraved either on the title page or the colophon. They were most commonly used in the later fifteenth century and early sixteenth centuries, and became less common throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
The device typically used an image and lettering to show who printed the book.
Unframed. Mottling and fading commensurate with age. Wonderful patina.
