19th Century French Hand Painted Framed Pastoral Canvas after David Teniers

About the Item

Decorate your game room or hallway with this colorful antique canvas from northern France. Created, circa 1870, the wall hanging painting depicts a lively pastoral scene filled with people dancing, courting and drinking in the manner of David Teniers. The large hand painted canvas is dressed with a thick decorative walnut frame for structure. The canvas is in excellent condition and has rich and warm colors. David Teniers the Younger or David Teniers II (1610-1690) was a Flemish Baroque painter, print maker, draughtsman, miniaturist painter, staff age painter, copyist and art curator. He was an extremely versatile artist known for his prolific output. He was an innovator in a wide range of genres such as history painting, genre painting, landscape painting, portrait and still life. He is now best remembered as the leading Flemish genre painter of his day. Teniers is particularly known for developing the peasant genre, the tavern scene, pictures of collections and scenes with alchemists and physicians Measures: 97" W x 74" H.
