Antique French IHS embroidered religious panel IHS - In His Service Religious French embroidery fragment from a church panel or vestment gown The base fabric is an off white colour woven damask, the IHS initials are in thick gold metallic ribbon thread, with other pattern detailing in red and gold Circa 1830 but exact date uncertain We have had the embroidery professionally framed. The wooden frame is painted with farrow and ball 'Stoney Ground' the embroidery has an acrylic faux glass front panel, making shipping no problem. You cannot tell this isn't a real glass panel Overall size of frame 47cm width, 64cm height, 4cm depth IHS Fragment 50cm Height x 33cm Width "Ihs" Is Sometimes Interpreted As Meaning In Latin "Jesus Hominum (Or Hierosolymae) Salvator", ("Jesus, Saviour Of Men [Or: Of Jerusalem]" In Latin) . English-Language Interpretations Of "Ihs" Have Included "In His Service".
