Dutch Minimalist / Zero Textile Woven Lines Artwork in White Fabric
About the Item
Huge framed minimalist ZERO artwork in textile by a known Dutch artist, signed and dated.
With limited use of color and material this piece creates an interesting play with light and shadow, linking it to the Minimalist ZERO.
Zero was an artist group founded in Düsseldorf in 1958 by Heinz Mack and Otto Piene. The word 'zero', in the words of Piene, meant: "a zone of silence and of pure possibilities for a new beginning". In 1961, Günther Uecker joined the group. ZERO, written in capital letters, stands for the international movement, with artists from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Italy. The movement is usually interpreted as a reaction to abstract expressionism by claiming that art should not have color, emotion and individual expression. The Zero group maintained numerous international contacts, among others with the Italian Lucio Fontana, the Frenchman Yves Klein (who emphasized the importance of pure color perception) and the Swiss Jean Tinguely (kinetic art, rotating objects).I n the Netherlands, Zero was represented by the members of the Dutch Nul movement with Henk Peeters as promoter and. Jan Schoonhoven.
ZERO is in line with constructivism and shows affinity with op art. The movement was a forerunner of conceptual art, land art, minimal art.
The characteristics of ZERO are light, movement and monochrome painting. To play with light and shadow, the artists often use nails, relief and ribbed surfaces. There is no longer a sharp boundary between painting and sculpture.
All these characteristics can be found in this piece.
Please note: This is a unique vintage item and has trace of use/storage and may have cracks/loss of paint.

- Minimalist Geometric Abstract Relief in Tonal Whites by Dutch ArtistLocated in AMSTERDAM, NLExpressive abstract relief in white by Dutch artist Henk van Putten (1936-2019) Van Putten called himself a constructivist in the tradition of Vladimir Tatlin, with whom he shared not only aesthetic principles but also social commitment. For example, almost everything he made in 3D is made up of several parts; glued, welded or screwed together. In his paintings, which he often made prior to the 3D version, he even painted the seams where they would appear in the later work. Van Putten’s work, although easily recognisable, shows a clear affinity with artists he admires such as André Volten, Gerrit Rietveld and more generally with ‘De Stijl’. Yet he made no contact with them; he felt much more like a kindred spirit of German artists, especially the ZERO movement whose members, like himself, were strongly involved in society. He befriends people like Egon Eppich and Hap Grieshaber...Category
